Sealing protects concrete from oil, grease, moisture and everyday wear, and makes it much easier to keep clean. It also brings out the colour of exposed aggregate, honed and coloured concrete. We seal new and existing driveways, paths, patios and slabs around Christchurch.

We start with a free look at the concrete and talk through what you want: a natural, low-sheen protection or a richer, wet-look finish. Existing concrete is cleaned first, because sealer only works properly on a clean, dry surface. Oil stains, dirt, algae and loose material are dealt with before anything goes on. The sealer is then applied evenly in the right conditions and left to cure.

Brand new concrete needs time to cure before it is sealed, so we will tell you the right timing for your pour. If we have just laid your driveway or patio, we can seal it as part of the job or come back once it is ready.

Sealer wears over time, and how long it lasts depends on the product, the finish and how much traffic the surface gets. We will explain what to expect and when to reseal.

Common questions

Why seal concrete?

Sealer helps stop oil, grease, moisture and dirt soaking into the concrete, makes it easier to clean and brings out the colour of decorative finishes.

Can you seal old concrete?

Yes. Existing concrete is cleaned first and any loose material is dealt with, then the sealer is applied to a clean, dry surface.

How soon can new concrete be sealed?

New concrete needs to cure first. The timing depends on the concrete and the weather, and we will tell you when is right for your pour.

Will sealing make concrete slippery?

It depends on the product and finish. We choose sealers suited to driveways, paths and patios and can talk through grip at the visit.

How often does concrete need resealing?

It depends on the product, the finish and how much traffic and weather the surface sees. We will explain what to expect and when to reseal.

Do you seal exposed aggregate and honed concrete?

Yes. Sealing is especially popular on exposed aggregate and honed finishes because it protects them and brings out the colour.
